My professional writing and communications experience has included serving as a staff writer for the American Medical News, the communications manager for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and a communications consultant for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association
My freelance articles have been published in ACEP News, BMJ, Chicago Health, Chicago Tribune, Health Data Management, HealthBiz Decoded, JAMA, Journal of AHIMA, Racine Journal Times, Racine Post, the Rotarian, She, Wisconsin Trails and more. I write many stories about health care issues. Generally, these articles focus on insurance, finance, practice management or technology topics in health care, but I also write about clinical subjects.
In addition, I enjoy writing feature and lifestyle articles. For examples, I've written stories about local business owners, written about the benefits of ballet as exercise, profiled the president of Rotary International, and even written about trends in bridal accessories.
I also like to write essays and memoirs. My creative nonfiction has been published in Midwest Prairie Review, On Wisconsin, Under the Sun, and several volumes of the TallGrass Writers Guild annual anthology. I've been a writer-in-resident at the Ragdale Foundation.
I have a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a master's degree in journalism from Marquette University and an MFA in creative writing from Roosevelt University.
